The Ekiti Central Business District (CBD) project is a flagship urban renewal initiative by the Ekiti State Government in partnership with Axial Nigeria Limited aimed at transforming the Atikankan and Igbeyin areas of Ado-Ekiti from a dilapidated slum into a modern, organized commercial hub. The project will create a vibrant business district featuring modern markets, car parks, pedestrian walkways, and green spaces designed to enhance trade, attract investment, and boost the state’s internally generated revenue. As part of the redevelopment, the government made the payment of about ₦300 million in compensation to property owners affected by the demolition of old structures, while also relocating displaced traders to new, designated trading zones. The CBD project forms a key part of the state’s urban transformation agenda, aimed at improving environmental health, security, and economic activity in the capital city. Once completed, it is expected to become the commercial heartbeat of Ekiti, driving sustainable growth and reshaping Ado-Ekiti’s urban landscape.
